Marion Gibbens

SYRACUSE — Marion Murl Gibbens, 90, died Tuesday, Jan. 29, 2013, at Seasons Of Life Living Center in Syracuse.

He was born Feb. 3, 1922, in Plains, to Archie Murl and Lottie Bertha Westeman Gibbens. He graduated from Pratt High School in Pratt in 1940.

On Nov. 17, 1960, he married Doris Darline Wilson in Raton, N.M.

A Syracuse resident since 1964, Mr. Gibbens worked for Lawrence Herrmann, farming from 1983 until retiring in 1989. He had been a resident of Seasons Of Life Living Center since May 2012.

In addition to his wife, survivors include two sons, Johney and Arnold Gibbens, both of Syracuse; two stepsons, Frankie Cary of Wichita, and Carl Schouten of Syracuse; three sisters, Vivian Hilgenfeld of Norman, Okla., Claudine Cassidy of Pratt, and LaVita Bingston of Holton; one grandchild; two stepgrandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and two stepgreat-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Clayton and Manford Gibbens; and a sister, Syble Gibbens Wilson.

Funeral will begin at 10 a.m. MST Friday at First Christian Church, Syracuse. Burial will begin at 1 p.m. CST Saturday at Greenlawn Cemetery in Pratt.

Visitation hours are 1 to 7 p.m. MST today at Fellers Funeral Home LLC, Syracuse. Condolences may be sent to fellersfh@yahoo.com. In lieu of flowers, memorials payable to the Marion M. Gibbens Memorial Fund may be sent in care of the funeral home, Box 1253, Syracuse, KS 67878.
