Arnold Messenger

Arnold "Lee" Messenger, 82, died Monday, Jan. 28, 2013, at his home in Garden City.He was born Aug. 8, 1930, in Eads, Colo., the son of Arno and Blanche Brown Messenger.
A resident of Garden City since 1978, Mr. Messenger had been a farmer and real estate agent. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Dighton. He also belonged to the Sierra Club, Kansas Farm Bureau, Finney County Tax Payers Association and Americans For Prosperity. He enjoyed playing cards, and watching and reading westerns. He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War.
On June 24, 1951, he married Betty Smith in Scott City. She survives. Other survivors Include a son, E. Shane Messenger and wife Tori of Columbia, Mo.; two daughters, Tanya Messenger and fiancé Randy Thayer of Belleville, and Tara Boaldin and husband Mark of Garden City; two brothers, Donald Messenger and wife Wauneta of Garden City, and Kenneth Messenger and wife Shirley of Grove, Okla.; a sister, Peri Neill and husband Bill of Hartsville, Mo.; an aunt, Mrs. Lee (Gertrude) Brown of Scott City; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Harry Messenger; a sister, Glenda Burgess; and his stepmother, Ruth Uzzell.
Funeral will begin at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Price & Sons Funeral Home in Garden City. Burial will begin at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Scott County Cemetery in Scott City.
