Billy Collins

Billy Collins, 75, died Monday, Jan. 28, 2013, at his home in Dodge City.He was born Jan. 24, 1938, in Welfare Island, N.Y. On Oct. 10, 1944, he was adopted by Anthony and Delia Dunnigan Collins.
A Dodge City resident since 1988, moving from Ellinwood, Mr. Collins was a truck driver for Chaffin Inc., in Dodge City, retiring in 2002. He was a member of Cathedral of Our Lady of Guadalupe and a lifetime member of ABATE, both in Dodge City, as well as being a ham radio operator. He also loved riding and tinkering on motorcycles and was a motorcycle instructor. He served in the U.S. Air Force.
On Nov. 23, 1957, he married Patricia Hammersmith in Topeka. They later divorced. On June 16, 1995, he married Linda Williams in Dodge City. She survives. Other survivors include three sons, William "Bill" Collins of Burlington, N.C., Roger Collins of Garden City, and Steven McFarling of Grand Coulee, Wash.; four daughters, Kelly Baker of Ellinwood, Tracy Menges and husband Mark of Ellinwood, Patty Collins of Great Bend, and Stacey Stults and husband Steve of Hays; a sister, Delores McGann of Delaware; 15 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and his dogs, Maxi and Annie. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Mary Murphy and Ann Gentile; a brother, Mickey Collins; and a daughter-in-law, Verna Collins.
Vigil service will begin at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Cathedral of Our Lady of Guadalupe, Dodge City. Funeral Mass will begin at 2 p.m. Thursday at the cathedral, with Fr. Ted A. Skalsky presiding. Burial will be at Greencrest Memorial Gardens, Dodge City.
