Marilyn Joyce Jackson McElroy, 61, a former Garden City resident, died Saturday, Jan. 18, 2014, in Wichita.

Marilyn Joyce Jackson McElroy, 61, a former Garden City resident, died Saturday, Jan. 18, 2014, in Wichita.

She was born July 10, 1952, in El Dorado, to Louis and Verla Davis Jackson. She graduated from Flinthills High School and received her associate degree from Butler Community College.

On June 17, 1972, she married Earl McElroy in El Dorado.

Mrs. McElroy was the owner and operator of the Sears Store in El Dorado from 1984 to 1994 and also the Sears store in Garden City and Emporia for several years afterward. She also was a medical coder for Blue Cross Blue Shield and Wichita Radiology.

Her hobbies were sewing, gardening, arts and crafts, and chasing butterflies. She especially loved to be with her family and grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, survivors include a son, Chris and wife Amanda of Tulsa, Okla.; a daughter, Dette and husband Lucas Longman of Denver; her mother, Verla Jackson of El Dorado; a sister, Shelley and husband Rick Lauber of Iola; a brother, Casey Jackson of El Dorado; and four grandchildren, Kennedy, Eleanor, William and Hope.

She was preceded in death by her father, Louis Jackson; and her father-in-law, William McElroy.

A celebration of her life will begin at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Northside Church of Christ in Wichita.

A visitation with family present will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Kirby-Morris Funeral Home in El Dorado.
