Yvonne Allman, 86, died Thursday, Jan. 17, 2013, at Garden Valley Retirement Village in Garden City.
She was born April 8, 1926, in Franklin County, to Henry Clinton and Henrietta Virginia Lambe Sturgeon.
Mrs. Allman attended Emporia State Teachers College, taught two years at Franklin County, then went on to receive her bachelor of science degree in journalism at Kansas State University. She was editor of the Collegian for one summer and worked in the KSU Library. She had been a former co-owner and operator of the Dighton Herald and office supply shop before moving to Garden City in 1968.
She was a member of the Presbyterian Church, VFW Ladies Auxiliary and Senior Center of Finney County, all at Garden City, and a lifetime member of the Anzio Beachhead Veterans Association.
On April 5, 1947, she married Le Roy Allman in Manhattan. He died Nov. 18, 1993, in Garden City.
Survivors Include a daughter, Carla Jean Allman of Tulsa, Okla.; two sons, Dale Nevins Allman of Plano, Texas, and David Arnold Allman of Lawrence; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.
Graveside service will begin at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Valley View Cemetery in Garden City.
