PIERCEVILLE — Bernardina Guadalupe "Lupe" Porras, 67, of Pierceville, died Friday, Jan. 11, 2013, at Hospice of the Valley in Phoenix.

PIERCEVILLE — Bernardina Guadalupe "Lupe" Porras, 67, of Pierceville, died Friday, Jan. 11, 2013, at Hospice of the Valley in Phoenix.

She was born May 20, 1945, in San Savas, Texas, to Eleno and Eufemia Zamarripa Lopez.

In March 1976, she married Antonio Porras in Garden City.

A former Garden City resident, Mrs. Porras worked as a bilingual teacher aide for Victor Ornelas Elementary School in Garden City before retiring due to chronic illness.

In addition to her husband, survivors include five sons, Joe Fermin Navarro of Dodge City, Joey A. Navarro of Wichita, Preston Porras of Ingalls, and Antonio Porras Jr. and Steven Porras, both of Garden City; four daughters, Maria Nora Gonzalez of Midland, Texas, Angie Mendez of Santa Fe, N.M., JoAnn Rivero of Garden City, and Elizabeth Navarro of Phoenix; two brothers, Robert Ortega of Ellsworth, and Jose Ortega of Greeley, Colo.; seven sisters, Dominga Nava of Salina, Juanita Venturi of Rochester, Minn., Gloria Rosas, Yolanda Corral, Dora Carrillo and Diana Betancourt, all of Garden City, and Carmen Tarin of Demming, N.M.; 36 grandchildren; and 27 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Pedro Porras; and a sister, Manuela Andrada.

Rosary will begin at 7:30 tonight at St. Mary Catholic Church, Garden City. Funeral Mass will begin at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the church. Burial will follow at Pierceville Cemetery.
