Cartoon should open more eyes

The editorial cartoon on the Opinion page on Thursday was a sad commentary on the state of the national media. Freedom of the press was never meant to allow the media to refuse to cover stories about events they consider "politically correct." It's about time the media shines a light on all that blood of innocents on the abortionist's clinic floor.

There are many in this country, including members of the media, who have supported the gruesome procedure called partial birth abortion in which a live baby is killed during his or her birth. It's a small step from there to killing the baby immediately after birth.

The truth is that I do not support any abortion. Babies have the right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness just like their mothers and the doctors who make a living by killing them.

Another commentary on the same editorial page complimented the mainstream media that "kept us best informed" about the Boston bombings. Surely, with all that man and woman power they can spare someone to cover the Kermit Gosnell trial.

Thanks to The Telegram for printing that cartoon. I hope it opened the eyes of many to what is going on in our country. May God forgive us and heal our land.

District can make its own decisions

I firmly believe those living in the Hugoton community are capable of managing their own affairs.

Might you have stated: "Should the Hugoton school district have allowed an alumnus to address its students after guidelines were established and agreed upon?"

A great tribute to local scholar

Congratulations Jose Alcantar. What a wonderful accomplishment. To receive the Gates Award is such an honor and I am so gratified to see the positive coverage of a true scholar. Anyone who knows me, knows I am a Wildcats fan, but, in this case, OU will be most blessed to have you. I don't know you, but I see you have proven that traditional hindrances don't get in your way, when achieving your goals. Please continue to strive to be the best you can be, and Garden City will be reading more great things about you in the future. Get ready Sooners, Jose is coming.
