Garden City police issued 13 citations as part of a driver's license check lane Saturday in the 1000 block of East Kansas Avenue.

During the two-hour check, 860 westbound drivers were contacted and asked to provide a valid driver's license. Officers issued nine

citations for no valid driver's licenses, two citations for driving with a suspended license and four citations for no proof of insurance. One of the individuals cited for driving while suspended also was arrested on two municipal warrants for failure to appear in court.

Officers were assisted in their efforts by members of the Garden City Police Department Citizens' Assist Team and students from the Garden City Community College Criminal Justice program.

The purpose of the check lane was to detect and deter unlicensed motorists from driving within Garden City. Check lanes of similar nature will be conducted in the future.
