Santa's Carnival: Featuring a moon walk, carousel, beep-beep cars, kiddie airplanes, a small roller coaster, swings, cotton candy, funnel cakes and visits with Santa, 1 to 6 p.m. today and Sunday at the Expo Building on the Finney County Fairgrounds in Garden City. All-day carnival ride wristbands are $5 per person.

"Holiday Cookie Walk": Featuring holiday baked items, cookie jar, Christmas wreath, nativity set and wooden crosses for sale, beginning at 9 a.m. at Community Congregational Church, Third and Walnut streets.

Yum Yum Shoppe: Featuring casseroles, baked goods, crafts, bierocks, burritos and homemade pretzels for sale, theme baskets offered in drawings for door prizes, plus soups for lunch, 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the parish hall at St. Thomas' Episcopal Church, 710 N. Main St.

Holly & Ivy Craft Show: Featuring quilted items, wood benches, Mountain Man candies, pumpkin fudge, handmade wood pens and jewelry, decorated T-shirts and scarves, metal yard creations and more, plus a food booth featuring bierocks, pies, sweet and dinner rolls, Christmas candies and more, 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Veterans Memorial Building on Main Street in Lakin, with cinnamon rolls and coffee available in the morning and a lunch of chili or baked potato with all the trimmings from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Free admission.

Red Stocking Breakfast: Kansas Children's Service League's annual fundraiser, 7:30 to 10:30 a.m. at Lone Star Steakhouse, 2306 E. Kansas Ave. Tickets are $10 in advance or $12 at the door (children age 10 and younger eat free). Advance tickets are available at


"They Also Ran: The Presidential Hopefuls" exhibit: Highlighting military heroes who became presidential candidates, incumbents who lost and the fluctuating costs of running a campaign, the exhibit is on display through Jan. 27, 2013, at Stauth Memorial Museum, 111 N. Aztec in Montezuma. Hours are 9 a.m. to noon and 1 to 4:30 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday and 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. Sunday. Admission is free, but donations are accepted.


Musical program: Christian music featuring "The Copeland, Ks. Salem Mennonite Singers," 7:30 p.m. at Garden Valley Retirement Village, 1505 E. Spruce St. (Note time change this week only.) The public is encouraged to attend at no charge. For more information, call 275-5036.


"Shepherd's Comedy": A medieval dinner theater presented by High Plains Home Educators high school students, 6:30 p.m. Dec. 6, 7 and 8 at Trinity Lutheran Church, 1010 Fleming St. Free-will donations will be accepted. For reservations, call (620) 397-5055.


Garden City Tuba Christmas Concert: 3 p.m. on Grant Avenue in downtown Garden City. Public admission is free; music fee of $5 for participating tuba players. All tuba players are invited to take part. For more information, call Barbara Salinas at 276-5705 or Jim McAllister at 276-9544.

Garden City Community College Art Faculty Exhibition: Featuring two-dimensional works by instructor Kyle Chaput and three-dimensional creations by instructor Brian McCallum in Mercer Gallery in the west wing of the Pauline Joyce Fine Arts Building on campus, 801 Campus Drive. Viewing hours are 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturdays. Free admission. Exhibition on view through Dec. 20 and includes a public reception from 1 to 3 p.m. Dec. 16. Exhibition also open Jan. 14 to 26, 2013.


"Sights & Sounds of Christmas" Open House: Featuring live musical entertainment, 1:30 to 4 p.m. at Garden Valley Retirement Village, 1505 E. Spruce St. The public is encouraged to attend. For more information, call 275-5036.

American Legion Riders Community Breakfast: Featuring biscuits, gravy, bacon, sausage, scrambled eggs, potatoes, French toast, coffee and orange juice, 8 to 11 a.m. at 405 S. Main St. Cost for the all-you-can-eat meal is $8 for adults, $5 for age 8 to 13 and free to children younger than 7. Immediate family members of deployed service men and women eat for free.

Health Department

Hours at the Finney County Health Department, 919 Zerr Road, are 8 a.m. to noon and 1 to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday. Friday hours are 8 a.m. to noon.
