Piano recital Sunday

The Garden City Piano Teachers League will present a student recital at 2 p.m. Sunday in the chapel of Garden Valley Retirement Village, 1505 E. Spruce St.

Students to perform are: Cole Krug, Lily Sanchez, Theodore Juhl, Abby Oller, Jerica McGuire, Greg Landgraf, Audrey Shepherd, Andrei Altamirano, Bernardo Altamirano, Esther Bartel, Emma Carlson and Katherine Hubbard.

Their teachers are Tamara Bunney, Laurel Reynolds, Linda Rishel, Marjorie Vanderweide and Carolyn Klassen.

Duplicate bridge

The Garden City Duplicate Bridge Club played three tables on Sunday that accumulated 24 games bid and made while one of two slams succeeded. First place went to Dorothy Bartlett and Virginia Enslow with a 64 percent game. Jon Kempton and Ron Patrick were second, only 0.9 points back.

The regular game Monday evening scored 14 games and one slam among only five pairs. Bartlett and Enslow were again first, improving to 65 percent, while Kempton and Jon Craig took second, a full point back.

Tuesday's game favored no-trump contracts as 18 games were bid and made but only one of four slams survived. Helen Lee and Shirley Klotz were first, Rusty Farr and Donna Morris held second, and Kempton/Enslow tied with Ron Patrick and Irene Bryant two points back.

Regular games begin at 7 p.m. Monday, 1:15 p.m. Tuesday and 2 p.m. Sunday at the Senior Center of Finney County, 907 N. 10th St., with all bridge players welcome. For partners, call Jon Kempton at 276-2876.

Beacon Boosters 4-H

The Beacon Boosters 4-H Club met April 14, with roll call answered by naming a 4-H leadership activity. Secretary LaRae Boaldin read the minutes and they were approved as read. Treasurer Kourtney Goss gave the treasurer's report and it was approved.

Junior Leader representative Andrew Baker gave a report on the activities of the last Junior Leader meeting. Reporter Reed Harp stated when he last reported in the newspaper. Community leader Keith Strasser talked about all the registrations coming up. He urged everyone interested in going to camp to get online to check for deadlines.

Community leader Alicia Harp announced that she registered all who participated in Relay for Life last year for this year's event. If any additional members or parents would like to participate, contact her with your information. Community leader Brian Bahl talked about the archery project meeting that was held. If any members are interested in archery, contact him.

For the club project, recreation, it was discussed that the club have a booth at the Finney County Fair with the basketball goals like they did at the Honor Flight Chili Feed. All proceeds could go to the club's Relay for Life team.

LaRae Boaldin gave out April birthday treats and led the club in singing "Happy Birthday." In honor of Easter, Emily Scott, with some help from Reed Harp, led the club in singing "Here Comes Peter Cottontail."
