Every Monday in September, we will have lunch with a doctor. We will hear from Drs. Layne Dameron, Tom Koksal, Dee Rupp and Toan Nguyen. Each will speak on their particular specialty. Join us at 11:30 a.m. to learn from the doctor and enjoy lunch.
Tuesdays at 5:30 p.m., we'll have "Back to School for Seniors." Learn about PREP (Physician Referral Exercise Prescription) at the YMCA with Sara Tighe, health and fitness director. Hear from Rick Schaffer about all the components of Medicare. Schaffer is an insurance counselor with the SouthWest Kansas Area Agency on Aging in Dodge City.
We will "Do Something Grand" during national Grandparents Week. We are partnering with Golden Plains Credit Union to gather nonperishable food items such as Ramen noodles, fruit cups, peanut butter or cheesy crackers and canned Vienna sausages. These items will be donated to students needing weekend meals. Bring your donations to the senior center any time the week of Sept. 9.
Finney County Historical Museum educator Johnetta Hebrlee will show fashions dating from the 1890s on Sept. 12 beginning at 2 p.m. Wear your hat and gloves, come see the fashions and stay for tea and special refreshments.
Did you know that western Kansas was home to German prisoners of war during World War II? Kansas Humanities Council speaker Matthew Thompson will be here to tell the community about this interesting part of our history. Thompson, the curator of the Dwight D Eisenhower museum in Abilene, will be here Sept. 26 at 5:30 p.m.
The senior center is celebrating 35 years of living well. Join us for a birthday party on Sept. 26 at 2 p.m. At the senior center, our goal is to advocate for living at home to the best of your abilities and for as long as you are able. Join us as we live well and flourish in Finney County.
We have a small but faithful group that plays Skip-Bo every Thursday at 1 p.m. They have a good time but want some more friends to join them. Like Skip-Bo? Come on down. Don't know how to play? They will be happy to teach you. This is a great game that uses the brain, but you don't have to be a genius to learn it! Thursday at 1 p.m. Join us.

Thursday, the TOPS Club will meet at 9 a.m., followed by art class at 10 a.m. Gentle exercises start at 11 a.m. The Ambassador Singers practice at 1 p.m. Skip-Bo begins at 1 p.m. Also at 1 p.m. is a snooker tournament. Yoga begins at 6:30 p.m.
Friday, the day begins with line dancing at 8:30 a.m. A nurse from St. Catherine Hospital will be here from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Bridge starts at 12:45 p.m.
Saturday, the pool room is open from 1 to 4 p.m. Fiddlers, Pickers Singers are here from 5 to 9 p.m.
Monday, the senior center and Finney County Transit are closed for the holiday.
Tuesday begins with an all new computer class taught by Harvey Marcotte. The class will meet Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9 to 10:30 a.m. It will cover computer basics, simple programs, Internet and email. Reservations are required due to limited space. Call 272-3620 to enroll. Walking begins at 8:30 a.m. Gentle exercises are at 11 a.m. Pitch starts at 12:30 p.m. Bridge begins at 1:15 p.m.
Sept. 4 has line dancing at 8:30 a.m. TOPS 1116 meets at 10 a.m. Pinochle starts at 12:40 p.m. The regular Wednesday night dance featuring Jim Calhoun begins at 7:30 p.m. The recommended donation is $5.
Lunch is served at noon.
Thursday: Lasagna, peas, perfection gelatin salad, fruit yogurt parfait.
Friday: Baked fish, hash brown potatoes, Capri vegetables, cinnamon roll, fruit mix.
Tuesday: Oven-fried chicken, mashed potatoes, asparagus, pudding, wheat roll.
Sept. 4: Bierock casserole, peas, carrots, creamy fruit salad.
