The senior center is located at the corner of 10th and Jones streets. We have a huge parking lot with numerous handicapped parking spaces. The entrance at the southeast corner of the building has an automatic door and no steps. The back entrance on the west side has only one step. Our building has a large, open room, wide hallways and handicapped restrooms. We can accommodate physical limitations. Our building has six computers with Internet access available to the public. Set up an email account and communicate with family and friends nearby or far away. Call 272-3620 for more information.
A big obstacle cited was lack of transportation. In Garden City, lack of transportation is not an issue. We have the Mini Buses which will pick you up at your front door and drop you off at your destination. A brief application is required for the Mini Bus. The City Link buses make hourly loops throughout Garden City. Transfers are available to make it possible to get from one route to another. Fees vary depending on the service. Call 272-3626 for more information.
Need some relief from caregiver responsibilities? Our friends at Legacy Senior Services can help. Call Stephanie Metheney at 277-7112 for more information. Hours are 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday. They accept customers as drop-ins or on a regular ongoing basis.
The AARP Foundation plans to learn how to help with these issues of isolation. In Garden City, we don't need to wait for AARP. Pick up the phone. Don't sit at home. Staying in touch is good for your health.
Our annual Christmas dinner sponsored by Commerce Bank will be on Thursday, with entertainment at 11:30 a.m., followed by lunch at noon. Tickets are required. Stop by the senior center office to get your ticket.
