Food sales tax refunds to end
Kansas taxpayers who meet income guidelines and other qualifications will have only one more year to get refunds for sales taxes paid for food.
For tax year 2012, the Food Sales Tax Refund is available to individuals who are Kansas residents the entire year, whose household incomes are less than $35,401 and who are 55 or older, or who are totally and permanently disabled or blind, or who have a dependent under the age of 18 living with them the entire year.
Again, 2012 is the last year. The 2012 Legislative session passed House Bill 2017, which repealed the legislation for the Food Sales Tax refund. The passage of this law ends the Food Sales Tax refund effective Jan. 1, 2013. The claim for 2012 would be made on an individual's 2012 income tax return to be filed in 2013.
