Senior center can help with New Year's resolutions

Have you resolved to make some changes in 2014? Check out the senior center.

Want to eat out more often? Our Friendship Meals lunch is served Monday through Friday at noon. These healthy meals provide good food and good companionship. Menus are published in this column and in the bimonthly newsletter. Don't get the newsletter? Call 272-3620 and ask to be placed on the mailing list.

Did you resolve to volunteer more? RSVP can help. Call 275-5566 to learn about the many volunteer opportunities available not only at the senior center but many other places in Garden City. Don't sit home wishing you had something to do.

Want to exercise more? Join the Walking Club that meets at 8:30 a.m. Tuesdays. Check with Hope at 272-3620 to see where they walk each week. Like to dance for exercise? Join line dancing at 8:30 a.m. Wednesdays and Fridays. They have a country good time. Want something quieter? Check out gentle exercises at 11 a.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays. Want some strength training? Try "Strength Training for Seniors" at 5:15 pm..Mondays and Thursdays. Weights are provided. Bring a towel. Want something quiet and contemplative? Try yoga at 6:30 p.m. on Thursdays. Bring a floor mat.

There's plenty to do at the Senior Center of Finney County. Resolve to give us a try.

Health tip

Each month we will suggest a healthy living/eating goal to work toward. January's healthy eating goal is to add three servings of fruits and vegetables to your diet every day.

FCCA members

Have you ever wondered who makes the decisions at the senior center? The board of directors of the senior center is known as the Finney County Committee on Aging. This seven-member group is appointed by the county commissioners and meets monthly to discuss the business of the senior center and Finney County Transit.

FCCA members are Beth Tedrow, chairperson; Ray Mann, vice chair; Anna May Velev, secretary; Susan Chase, treasurer; and members Tim Beltran, Ken Ostmeyer and Warren Schwab. Monthly board meetings are open to the public.
