The Finney County Genealogical Society will meet from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday in the Kansas Room at the Finney County Public Library, 605 E. Walnut St.
Stan Smith will give the program "Without Indentures" and "White Slave Children."
Visitors are welcome.
Happy Hustlers 4-H
The Happy Hustlers 4-H Club met Jan. 5 at the Finney County 4-H building, with nine members answering roll call by naming something new they would like to do in 2014.
The club voted to donate money to the Finney County 4-H Foundation and to the Honor Flight Chili Feed scheduled for Feb. 15.
For the program, Corrine Bergstrom gave a talk on the clarinet that she plays in band. Wyatt Gigot and Tristan Clark led the club in playing a cotton ball relay. Meara Bergstrom was the birthday honoree.
The next meeting will begin at 5:30 p.m. Feb. 2 at the 4-H building.
Senior center pinochle
Betty Schreibvogel won high in the four tables of senior center pinochle played Wednesday at the Senior Center of Finney County, 907 N. 10th St. Ruth Dunlap took second place. Peggy Phipps, Maybelle Bowen and Delores Atchinson tied for third.
The Garden City Duplicate Bridge Club played a 25-board Howell movement Jan. 6, with a variety of deals producing 30 games, seven in no-trump, but allowing only two hard-won slams. Wen Wurst and Jon Craig accounted for both slams and held first place by a half-point over Dorothy Bartlett and Virginia Enslow.
Regular games begin at 7 p.m. Monday, 1:15 p.m. Tuesday and 2 p.m. Sunday at the Senior Center of Finney County, 907 N. 10th St., with all bridge players welcome. For partners, call Jon Kempton at 276-2876.
Phi Sigma Alpha
Phi Sigma Alpha sorority met Thursday at the home of Sandy Rodgers, with Nancy Garhart as co-hostess. Nine members answered roll call by stating whether they had a boyfriend when they were 14.
The program was presented by Dr. Jeri Neuman who spoke about chiropractic and acupuncture care.
The treasurer's report noted that $89 was paid out for grapes and sacks for the fruit baskets. Some sacks remain to use for next year's baskets.
A thank-you note was received from Family Crisis Center for the hats, gloves and scarves received at Christmas time.
Devotions were read by Rodgers. The story was titled "Helen Marie, A Portrait of Faith" by Barbara Sims. Exchange of secret sister gifts and refreshments concluded the evening.
The next meeting will be at the home of Carlene Schweer, with Rodgers as co-hostess. This will be the Valentine Dinner, beginning at 6:30 p.m.
