Culinary courses coming soon to GCCC

Garden City Community College is offering a series of culinary short courses, including Sensational Sauces, 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, by Chef Justin Garcia for $49; Knife Skills, 6 to 9 p.m. March 26 for $49; Fundamentals of Frosting and Cake Decorating, 6 to 8:30 p.m. April 7 and 9 for $75.

Classes meet in room 1007 of the Penka Building of Practical Arts and Sciences. Each requires sufficient enrollment to take place. Registration is necessary at least one week before classes start.

Relay for Life meets Thursday

The first team meeting for Relay For Life is 6 p.m. Thursday at the AmericInn in the main floor conference room. ¬ It is not too late to get a team together for the Relay For Life event on Aug. 8.¬ ¬

Family fitness night at Florence Wilson

Florence Wilson Elementary School, 1709 Labrador Blvd., is having a Family Fitness Night for students and parents from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Thursday. Several organizations from the community will provide activities and information about fitness for the entire family.

There will be free screenings, smoothies and giveaways, as well. The fitness games and activities will take place in the school gymnasium.

USD 457 offers free screening clinic

USD 457 will hold a free screening clinic for Garden City children ages 3 to 5 years old Friday at Garfield Early Childhood Center, 121 W. Walnut St.

The screening takes about an hour and a half. Each child's hearing, vision, large and small muscle development, communication, and thinking skills will be checked.
