Happy Homemakers FCE

Members of Happy Homemakers FCE told their nationality for roll call at the March 9 meeting at the Finney County Extension Office, with Frances Gillan as the hostess. Clara Faye Schweer gave devotions from 2 Corinthians 3:3.

Dorothy Olomon gave the lesson, "Genealogy: Tracing Your Roots," pointing out some of the many resources available free of charge for someone wanting to trace their family history. She said that it's very important to visit with the oldest family members at an early age, because as people age their health issues come up and many times death happens unexpectedly.

A few helpful sources she noted include the register of deeds office, historical societies, Web sites, museums and libraries. Also, in every state is a place or places genealogy information can be found. She said when making notations on photographs you should always use a soft-leaded pencil since ball point ink may damage the picture in time. She shared actual documents of different eras of her family history.

The unit's community service project this month is Emmaus House, which received donations of canned goods.

The next unit meeting will begin at 2 p.m. April 13 at Olomon's home.
