If you're trying to plan a birthday party as the weather is getting colder, you know the issues that come with it. Small spaces and keeping kids entertained indoors can be a challenge, but not if you choose to celebrate at Lee Richardson Zoo. Our birthday celebrations provide solutions to your problems.
Birthday parties at the zoo provide plenty of space for little ones to stretch their legs and move around as they explore the interactive displays at the Finnup Center for Conservation Education. They’ll see native Kansas animal habitats and discover the importance of these animals to our local ecosystem. From a hognose snake to a kangaroo rat, there will be a variety of creatures to wow your guests as they explore the unique animals that call the Finnup Center for Conservation Education home.
The animal experiences don’t stop there! Your party will receive a half-hour program with up to three Ambassador Animals. If you have not participated in a program at the zoo before, you are in for a real treat. You and your guests will have an up-close encounter with zoo residents that most people don't meet during a typical zoo visit. Ambassador Animals are zoo residents that guests can meet up close during programs or events. Currently, we offer two formats for birthday programs. If you’re celebrating with older kids, then the standard program will be a great fit. Our educators will share fun facts about each animal and there will be time for your guests to ask questions. If you’re celebrating a birthday for a baby or toddler, the storytime format is the perfect choice for you. We’ll read a fun book and meet animals that were in, or connect to, the story.
Birthday parties at the zoo are not just for kids, but for the young at heart too! We’ve had a family who brought their little boy to the zoo for his birthday party four years in a row and when it was time to plan grandma’s 90th birthday celebration, the zoo was a perfect fit for that too. With lots of family in attendance, booking with the zoo provided the family with an indoor party space and a fun program for all ages to enjoy.
Each event gets two hours of indoor party space with room for thirty-five adults and children to attend. To best suit your needs, birthday parties can be booked for morning or afternoons on most Saturdays and Sundays. The standard package (no decorations or cleanup provided) costs $125 for non-members, but if you are a member of Friends of Lee Richardson Zoo, present your family or grandparent membership card to receive $25 off the total cost of the event.
Need more options for your celebration? Don’t worry, we have you covered. Extra time in the party room can be added on to your birthday event package to provide more time for your birthday child to “monkey around." Don’t have time to plan the decorations? We can help you with that too. For an additional fee, staff will set up zoo-themed décor and cleanup afterward. A party at the zoo can be built to meet your needs.
