Sharon Brewer to celebrate 80th

Sharon Brewer of Garden City will celebrate her 80th birthday on May 16, 2018.

She was born May 16, 1938, in Norwich.

To participate in a card shower to honor Sharon on her special occasion, cards may be sent to her at 1224 Ridgewood Drive, Garden City, KS 67846.


Senior center cards

Bob Baker won high in the three tables of pitch played Tuesday at the Senior Center of Finney County, 907 N. 10th St. Alva Burch took second place. Third went to John Bunnell.

In the two tables of pinochle played Monday, Maybelle Bowen won high, Albert Spor was second, and Jeannie Spor placed third.

Baker won high in the two tables of pinochle played May 2. Bunnell took second place. Third went to Bob Ellis.


Sherlock Strivers 4-H

The Sherlock Strivers 4-H Club met Sunday, with 22 members and nine parents in attendance. 

After officer reports, the members were introduced to the new County Extension Agents, Jennifer LaSalle and Jennifer Stoss. They will start their new positions in June.

The club was reminded of its upcoming community service project to provide snacks and water at the May 19 livestock show and clinic. The Elam family will supervise this project. The club also was reminded of some upcoming dates: 4-H horse practice Saturday at the Finney County Fairgrounds, Finney County Spring Show and clinic May 19 at the fairgrounds, and the Tuesday due date for the livestock declaration forms.

Members showing market livestock were reminded to complete PQA or YQCA by May 31.

Members also were informed of online fair entries, which will start in June. 

Upcoming events include the Summer Reading Petting Zoo at the Finney County Public Library on June 30 and the Southwest Spectacular 4-H Horse Show on July 7 at the fairgrounds.

The meeting on June 3 at Holcomb Elementary School will be the club tour. Members will bring posters or items to show what their projects are for 2018. It was also decided that Foods members will host a taco bar at this meeting.
