Although the temperatures have been unpredictable so far this year, I want to remind you that the Cold Weather Rule is still in effect until March 31 to ensure people will have electric, natural gas and water service for their homes during the winter.

Utilities must inform you of the Cold Weather Rule payment plan, as well as other payment plan options before disconnecting service, and they must send written notice to customers 10 days before disconnection, plus attempt a phone call or personal contact the day prior. A company cannot disconnect when the temperature is forecasted to drop below 35 degrees in the next 24 hours, except in certain circumstances.

A utility may start final notification and disconnection process if there is a 48-hour forecast of temperatures above 35 degrees. If a 48-hour forecast changes before the period ends and there is a forecast of below 35 degrees, the utility cannot disconnect until there is another Cold Weather Rule 48-hour forecast of temperatures above 35 degrees.

To keep from getting disconnected when it is 35 degrees or above, or to get reconnected regardless of temperature, individuals can make payment arrangements with the utility company. You must make payment arrangements with your utility to use the Cold Weather Rule.

Lunch menu

Lunch is served at noon.

Thursday: Chicken-fried steak, mashed potatoes and gravy, peas and carrots, fruit.

Friday: Seasoned tilapia, baked potato with fixin’s, glazed baby carrots, fruit.

Monday: Chicken tenders, mashed potatoes and gravy, cauliflower, fruit.

Tuesday: Open-faced hot roast beef sandwich, mashed potatoes and gravy, green beans, applesauce.

March 7: Ham and asparagus roll up, scalloped potatoes, mixed vegetables, granola bar.
