Get free help with financial aid forms
Students and their parents can get some free, one-on-one help filling out the mandatory Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FASFA) at College Goal Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at Garden City High School. This is the first step in applying for financial aid to a post-secondary institution.
The forms will be available in both English and Spanish, and Spanish interpreters will be available to assist, as well.
One attendee at each of the state's 21 College Goal Sunday locations will receive a $500 scholarship, good for the fall 2014 semester of any college or technical education school in the country, provided the student is a first-semester freshmen at that time.
Computers will be available for families to complete the form online. Bring a 2013 income tax return, or a 2013 earnings statement to the event. GCHS seniors can bring their iPads to begin the process without waiting for a computer.
The U.S. Department of Education makes more than $150 billion in post-secondary financial aid available to students throughout the country each year. College Goal Sunday makes applying for that aid easier. "Regardless of where students want to go to school, we will be here to help them with the paperwork," Kathy Blau, Garden City Community College director of financial aid said. "If they are considering attending GCCC, we can help them with that too."
