September is National Senior Center month. Our theme is "Senior Centers — Your Place to Connect!" If you have never visited the Senior Center, this is your opportunity to see what we are all about. If you visit here occasionally, or even regularly, check out the many special activities planned for the month of September.
Beginning Sept. 1 and on each Wednesday during September, we will have free coffee and baked goods at 8 a.m. Join us for coffee and conversation. Bring a friend.
On Tuesday, Sept. 7, we will start a new gentle exercise class, Tuesday and Thursday mornings at 10. Everyone is invited.
Look for our booth selling bottled water at the Fiesta Parade on Saturday, Sept. 9. This is a fundraising event for the Senior Center. Many thanks to Pauline Irsik for helping with this project.
Wednesday night, Open Pool takes place from 7 to 10 p.m. Sept. 8. This non-tournament play is open to anyone 40 and older who wants to play pool in a non-smoking environment.
Watch for details on a Kansas Humanities Program "Clarina Nichols and the Fight for Women's Rights." This year is the 90th anniversary of women's suffrage. Join speaker Diane Eickhoff, independent historian, for a look at the life of this suffrage crusader. Tuesday, Sept. 14, at 7 p.m., is the date for this event.
Upcoming events include an ice cream social with a six-foot-long ice cream sundae, a booth at the Downtown Fall Fest, Wii lessons and a tailgate party scheduled for Thursday, Sept. 30.
