Hunting calendar
The following is the 2012-13 hunting calendar from the Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks:
Turkey seasons
2012 spring turkey:
Regular (firearm/archery): April 11- May 31
Shooting hours: One-half hour before sunrise to sunset.
Legal equipment: long, recurve or compound bows and shotguns and muzzleloading shotguns 20-gauge or larger using shot sizes 2 through 9. Crossbows are legal during April 11-May 31 season only.
Limit: Any individual who has purchased a spring turkey permit is eligible for one second turkey game tag. Spring game tags are valid for Units 2 and 3 only.
2012 fall turkey:
Archery/shotgun: Oct. 1- Nov. 27, Dec. 10-31,and Jan. 14-31, 2013
Fall turkey permits in Units 1, 2, and 3 and game tags for Unit 2 may be purchased over the counter at any license vendor from July 30 through Jan. 30, 2013.
No permits authorized in Unit 4.
Shooting hours: One-half hour before sunrise to sunset.
Legal Equipment: Shotguns 20-gauge or larger using shot sizes 2-9; long, recurve or compound bows.
Limit: Each hunter may obtain no more than one turkey permit and three turkey game tags. Residents and nonresidents who purchase a turkey permit also may purchase as many as three turkey game tags valid in Unit 2 only. Fall turkey permits and game tags are valid for both male and female turkeys.
Furbearers seasons
Hunting & trapping
NOTE: All furbearer hunting, trapping and running seasons begin at noon on opening day and close at midnight of closing day.
Species: badger, bobcat, mink, muskrat, opossum, raccoon, swift fox, red fox, gray fox, striped skunk, weasel.
Season Dates (statewide): Nov. 14-Feb. 15, 2013.
Limit: No limit.
Beaver trapping
Season Dates (statewide): Nov. 14 -March 31, 2013
Limit: No limit.
No open trapping or hunting season on any other furbearers
Running
Species: bobcat, opossum, raccoon, red fox, and gray fox.
Season dates (statewide): March 1- Nov. 1
Legal hours for running furbearers is 24 hours daily. Furbearers cannot be killed or taken during the running season. A furharvester license is required to run furbearers. It is illegal to possess any firearm or other hunting or trapping equipment while pursuing these animals during the running season.
Otter trapping
Season dates (statewide): Nov. 14- March 31, 2013
Limit: Two otters per trapper. Each individual who has trapped an otter shall contact KDWPT within 24 hours of take at (855) 778-6887 (RPT-OTTR). The pelt and skinned carcass shall be presented to KDWPT for tagging within four days of harvest. The skinned carcass, including skull, shall be surrendered to KDWPT at that time. It is the trapper's responsibility to stay aware of the season status. Updates on progress toward the 100-otter quota can be obtained by calling (855) 778-6887. Otters incidentally taken after the season closes should also be reported to this number.

2012 deer season dates:
Youth and Disability: Sept.8-16 (Youth 16 and younger, who possess a valid deer permit, may hunt during this special deer season only while under the immediate supervision of an adult 18 or older. Any person who possesses a valid deer permit and has a permit to hunt from a vehicle pursuant to KAR 115-18-4 or a disability assistance permit issued pursuant to KAR 115-18-15 also may hunt during this season. All resident and nonresident permits are valid, and equipment restrictions designated on permits apply. Hunter orange is required.
Muzzleloader: Sept. 17-30 (The following permits may be used during this season in units specified on permit, using muzzleloader or archery equipment: resident or nonresident muzzleloader either-species/either-sex permit, resident any-season white-tailed deer permit, nonresident muzzleloader white-tailed deer permit, hunt-own-land permit, special hunt-own-land permit, antlerless white-tailed deer permit, and antlerless either-species deer permit. Hunter orange clothing is required

The daily bag limit is 6 ducks, which may include no more than 5 mallards (only two of which may be hens), 3 wood ducks, 2 pintails, 2 scaup, 2 redhead, and 1 canvasback. Daily bag limit for mergansers is 5 (only two hooded mergansers, and daily limit for coots is 15.
