Cotton production in Kansas is forecast at 37,000 bales, down 47 percent from last year according to the USDA's National Agricultural Statistics Service.
Harvested acres, at 26,000 acres, are down 52 percent from 2012. Yield, at 683 pounds per acre, is up 55 pounds from the November forecast and up 61 pounds from last year.
Dry edible bean production in Kansas is forecast at 83,000 hundredweight for 2013, down 47 percent from last year. Total planted area, at 5,000 acres, is down 3,000 acres from last year. Harvested acres, at 4,600 acres, are down 2,900 acres from 2012. The statewide yield for 2013 is set at 1,800 pounds per harvested acre, 310 pounds lower than last year.
Pintos account for 72.3 percent of the total production; at 60,000 cwt, they are down from 137,000 cwt in 2012. All other bean classes represent 27.7.percent of the state's total production.
