Eye doctors attend seminar
More than 280 optometrists and 185 optometric assistants attended the 2012 Kansas Optometric Association Fall Eyecare Conference held recently in Wichita.
Optometrists attending were able to receive 13 hours of continuing education toward the 24 hours required for re-licensure. Among those attending were Drs. Scott Ackerman, Robert Hoch, George Hopkins, Toan Nguyen, Kristina Reimer, Monica Rein-Moore, David Torrey and Dawn Williams of Garden City.
The seminar included sessions on common anterior segment conditions, MRSA, systemic medications for special populations, signs in neuro-ophthalmology, papilledema and drug-related neuro-ophthalmic adverse effects. Attendees also heard presentations on the new KanCare Program and the Kansas Health Information Network and they had the opportunity to visit with representatives from the optometric industry focusing on eyewear, optometric equipment, electronic health records, patient services and practice management.
GCCC offers business help
A free workshop is coming up soon for people interested in launching small businesses.
Sponsored by the Kansas Small Business Development Center at Garden City Community College, the Steps to Startup workshop will take place from 1:30 to 4 p.m. Nov. 7 in Room 2023 on the upper level of the GCCC Student and Community Services Center.
The workshop will outline the fundamental steps in starting and operating a small business enterprise. Information on grants and financing, taxes, business ideas and feasibility will be included.
Pre-registration is required, but there is no charge. The session will be presented in cooperation with the U.S. Small Business Administration and the Kansas Department of Commerce. Information and registration are available by contacting the KSBDC at ksbdc@gcccks.edu or 276-9632.
