Sublette will go back in a time a little this season as Monte Marlin will once again coach basketball. But unlike his first stint as the boys coach, Marlin will be leading the girls team.
A fixture in Sublette basketball for 23 years coaching the boys team and winning more than 350 games, Marlin retired at the end of the 2004-05 season. After working as just the school's athletic director since then, he takes over a girls program that went 16-7 last season. Marlin will have his work cut out for him in his first year as the girls coach. The Lady Larks have just one returning starter from last year 6-foot-2 sophomore Daryan Whaler, who won't even be able to contribute though until mid-January because of a knee injury.
"We will struggle early with very little experience returning, the bust player is out with knee injury," Marlin said. "Hope to be competitive as the season progresses. The girls positive attitude and willingness to work hard to improve will be our strength. Also very intelligent group. Will be fun to work with."
The Lady Larks return just two other players with much varsity experience besides Whaler, as junior Anna Messerly and sophomore Katelyn Marlin look to provide a punch from the outside."

What will be missing from the Sublette boys line-up this season is height. But if anything, fourth-year head coach Matt Ziegler hopes experience will count just as much.
"We bring back a solid core from last year's team," Ziegler said. "Though we will be severely undersized against most teams we play, we have outstanding leadership and hope to build upon that as the season progresses."
The Larks return four starters and will depend on 6-3 senior Brandon Webb to provide stability down low. The only other returning starter 6-foot or taller is senior Brandon Stokes. Stokes is leading returning scorer for Sublette, averaging 8.5 points last season.Brodie Blackburn, a 6-foot senior, and 6-1 junior Joe Lower will be counted on to contribute as well. Junior Travis Leverett and sophomore Alex White both started at a guard position last season and will be counted on to the same this year. White is the second leading returning scorer for the Lark as he dropped in 8.1 pionts a game last year.
