The Greeley County Jackrabbits captured the Western Kansas/Liberty League boys basketball tournament Saturday night with a resounding 60-37 victory over the Weskan Coyotes at Goodland.

The Jackrabbits, who are 8-3, got 18 points from Jonathan Miller and also got 11 points each from Anthony Wilson and Clay Robertson.

A 14-6 first quarter lead became a 35-13 halftime bulge for the Jackrabbits. They were on top 47-22 after three quarters.

At Goodland, Golden Plains claimed third place in the Western Kansas/Liberty League tournament with a 49-44 triumph over the Dighton Hornets.

The Hornets found themselves down 14-6 after one quarter and then trailed 26-18 at halftime.

They pulled to within one, 33-32, after three quarters but could not pull out the win.

C.J. Shaffer and Guy Fullmer paced the Hornets with 12 and 10 points, respectively.

Dighton had some success from beyond the arc, hitting eight 3-pointers in the loss compared to Golden Plains three.

Healy 57, Cheylin 55

Kylan Bennett's 17 points helped the Healy Eagles stave off Cheylin, 57-55, in the Western Kansas/Liberty League consolation contest on Saturday at Goodland.

Bennett's output included 7-of-8 free throws while Darrick York scored 10 points in support of Bennett.

Omar Hernandez and Keaton Sunley scored 9 points each, with Hernandez getting his on three 3-pointers.

Caleb Keltz took game-high honors for Cheylin with 18 points while Adrian Garcia and Ethan Young added 12 each.

Weskan 50, Greeley Co. 40

At Goodland, the Lady Coyotes of Weskan got balanced scoring en rout to a 50-40 victory over the Greeley County Lady Jackrabbits in the third place game of the Western Kansas/Liberty League tournament.

Weskan's scoring attack was led by Kellie Young's 16 points while Kelsey Hale and Hillary McKinney contributed 15 and 14 points, respectively.

The Lady Coyotes trailed 11-10 after one quarter and then a low-scoring second period resulted in a 15-15 tie at halftime.

The Lady Coyotes won the game with scoring advantages of 15-11 and 20-14 in the final two periods.

Kelcy Crittenden had 11 points to lead the Lady Jackrabbits.

Greeley County shot 10-18 from the free throw line while Weskan shot 12-20.

Dighton 58, Golden Plains 40

In the 5th place game of the Western Kansas/Liberty League girls tournament, the Dighton Lady Hornets had four players reach double figures in their 58-40 victory on Saturday at Goodland.

The Lady Hornets jumped out to a 15-7 first quarter lead and then expanded it to 33-17 at halftime. It was 44-24 after three periods.

Katren Cramer's 15 points were high for Dighton while Shambrey Budd, Sarah Mulville and Emily Torson each contributed 10 points to the triumph. Melissa Ritter had 10 points to pace Golden Plains' scoring.

At Goodland, the Cheylin girls captured seventh place with a 53-40 victory Saturday night in the Western Kansas/Liberty League tournament.

Cheylin opened with a 9-7 lead after one quarter but a 17-7 second period outburst provided a 26-14 halftime lead over the Lady Eagles.

Healy narrowed the lead to 37-29 after three periods but a 16-11 fourth quarter provided the final margin.

For Healy, Angie LaToush led the way with 16 points, including a pair of 3-pointers. She was also 8-of-10 from the free throw line.
