Garden City Town Hall meeting cancelled

The Garden City Commission will not be holding a town hall meeting Tuesday night because of a League of Kansas Municipalities regional dinner in Holcomb that night. Town hall meetings typically are scheduled whenever there are five Tuesdays in a month. The next regularly scheduled commission meeting is Nov. 5.

YMCA offers Holiday Plunge program

Garden City Family YMCA will kick off its 2013-14 Holiday Plunge on Nov. 4. The program is a 12-week individual competition for youth and adults to compete for weekly prizes and a top prize of losing the most weight.

Fees are $20 for members and $40 for program participants.

Sen. Larry Powell seeking interns

State Sen. Larry Powell is seeking interns for the 2014 legislative session. Internships will begin the week of Jan. 14 and end in April.

Eligible participants must be credit seeking students enrolled in a Kansas high school or post-secondary education institution. All internships are unpaid. However, interns who drive to the Statehouse are eligible for milage reimbursement up to $600.

GCPD hosting seminar on business theft

An Internal Theft Forgery Robbery Seminar will be held Nov. 21 at the Finney County Law Enforcement Center in the Garden City Police Department training room at 304 N. Ninth St.

There will be two sessions, one from 9 to 11 a.m. and the second from 1 to 3 p.m.
