Deerfield — Rebekah Isaac

Published 5/23/2009 in Youth In Excellence

Rebekah Isaac has attended school in Deerfield for five years.

Before that, the Deerfield High School graduating senior with a 4.0 grade-point average attended school in Garden City for elementary school and then was home-schooled for four years.

As Isaac and her fellow graduates prepare to leave the Deerfield school district, her advice to her class is: "High school is not the climax. It is the beginning of a journey. Keep on striving to achieve your highest goals in life."

A goal of Isaac's is to attend Grace University.

"My major is music performance, piano. I want to develop my musical talent and grow as a musician," Isaac said in a questionnaire submitted to The Telegram.

During high school, Isaac received honors including being in the National Honor Society, a Kansas Honor Scholar, the Kansas Governor's Scholars Award and in the U.S. Achievement Academy.

Her activities include all-school play, band, choir, forensics, Student Council, class officer, Odyssey of the Mind and Scholar's Bowl.

Sports Isaac participated in include golf and cheerleading.

Her favorite classes were advanced music, anatomy and physiology and college algebra.

"I enjoy music, science and math," she said.

Isaac's least favorite class was world history because she "couldn't connect with the teacher's style."

Isaac's hobbies and the reasons why she likes them include:

* playing piano -- "self expression and a love for music."

* reading -- "enjoy learning new things."

* cross-stitching -- "enjoy creating."

* and scrapbooking -- "fun reliving memories."

Isaac says she doesn't "have any one favorite memory" of high school.

"However, I had lots of fun on music trips and competing at contest," she said.

Isaac's advice to incoming freshmen in high school is, "Friendships can be fickle. Don't let silly drama get in the way of doing your best in everything you do."

As Isaac graduates and leaves the Deerfield school district, she'd like to be remembered "as a studious, honest person who challenged herself, but also knew when to have fun with friends."
