Helena Harmison doesn't really have a "most" memorable moment or fondest memory from her days attending Dighton USD 482 and Dighton High School. Not that it wasn't memorable, she says, but according to Harmison, her classmates and people during school "made every day memorable."
Harmison's preparing to move on from USD 482, which she's attended since fifth grade — before that, she attended Theoni Elementary School in Garden City USD 457. As Harmison prepares to move on, her advice to incoming high school freshmen would be to, "enjoy high school. It goes by faster than you can imagine."
Other advice Harmison would like to give to her fellow graduates, as well as those just starting their high school education is: "You can make many plans, but the Lord's purpose will prevail (Proverbs 19:21)."
In a questionnaire provided to The Telegram, Harmison said her favorite classes were physics and college composition "because I like the teachers and both classes are always interesting in one way or another and a challenge. My least favorite is economics because it was confusing."
Harmison's cumulative high school grade-point average was 3.98, and she was on the honor roll all four years, as well as being a University of Kansas and Kansas State University honor scholar. She was an American Legion citizenship honorable mention, a Governor's Scholar and received the Dale Dennis Award. She also placed third in the Western Kansas Liberty League academic contest for the senior division in math.
Harmison also participated in band for four years, FFA for two years, Scholar's Bowl for four years, Science Olympiad for one year, National Honor Society for two years, National Society of High School Scholars for three years, was junior class vice president, sophomore class Student Council representative and senior class president.
Harmison enjoys hunting and fishing. She also loves nature and being outside.
Harmison's future goal is to be a wildlife biologist for the Colorado Division of Wildlife — she plans to attend Colby Community College and major in wildlife biology.
She'd like to be remembered "as the quiet one who wasn't so quiet her senior year."
