Jordan Toothaker has some practical advice for those who follow after him at Cimarron High School.
"Try to make the best of high school, or else it will be a very long four years," he said in a questionnaire for The Telegram.
Toothaker, a new graduate, also has some advice for his classmates as they embark on the next chapter of their lives -- college.
"Follow your ambitions and go to class, don't skip," he said.
If this advice sounds like something you might hear from someone older, Toothaker admits borrowing it from friends who have gone on in school.
"That's what they tell me, don't skip class," he said.
Toothaker hopefully will be following his own advice at Baker University, which he plans to attend in the fall to major in pre-dentistry in hopes of becoming an orthodontist.
In Cimarron schools, which he has attended "my whole life," science and math classes caught his interest, while British literature was his least favorite class.
"I like using problem-solving, getting a logical answer," he said. "I prefer definite answers. English is more opinionated, and I don't like that."
Toothaker was part of several activities in high school. They included National Honor Society, SADD, Student Council, Youth Friends, choir, Foreign Language Club, basketball and tennis.
He also was a member of the A-Team, on the honor roll for four years and a Kansas Honors Scholar.
One of his fondest memories from high school is qualifying for state tennis for the first time. He went to state the last two years.
"I got out pretty quickly my junior year, but this year, I got 10th," he said. "My whole family has played tennis. I've played it with my brothers growing up and liked it ever since."
One memory of state tennis is last year when the coach set off the alarm at a facility where the team was going to practice. "We were going to hit around the night before, but coach couldn't find the lights and ended up setting the alarm," he said. "The cops showed up. Our coach was a cop, so luckily nothing happened."
Outside of school, Toothaker likes to "play sports or watch movies, anything to get out of the house."
He also likes "to watch college sports because I'm competitive and a huge KU fan," he said. "I've been to some of their games. I just wear KU stuff and follow them pretty closely."
Ten years from now, Toothaker hopes his classmates remember him as "the well-rounded guy who got along with everyone."
