Consistency is important, said Cory Gleason, a new graduate of Cimarron High School.
Gleason, who finished his high school career with a 3.98 grade-point average, said he would tell incoming high school freshmen "to try all four years as best you can, because the first two years are just as important as senior and junior years."
Gleason also had some advice for his fellow graduates, according to a questionnaire he filled out for The Telegram.
"... Decide on a career that they will have a passion for," he said.
As for Gleason, he plans a career in optometry.
"I plan to attend the University of Kansas and study pre-optometry," he said. "I have always thought it looks like a rewarding and respected field."
During high school, Gleason was active in Students Against Destructive Decisions, Student Council all four years, Student Council president, KAYS, Foreign Language Club and C-Club.
His academic achievements included honor roll all four years, A-Team for four years, Kansas Honors Student, President's Scholar, Governor's Scholar and valedictorian.
Gleason, who has attended school in Cimarron since kindergarten, said his least favorite classes were his English classes because he has no interest in it.
Math and science caught his interest, though.
"They were challenging and interesting," he said.
Other than school, Gleason said he enjoys playing golf because it is peaceful and challenging. He also enjoys having good times with his friends.
Gleason said he'd like classmates to remember him as "a hard-working, fun-loving person."
