Catherine Rose Losey makes no bones about who she is and says she is what she is.And that's also how she'd like to be remembered as the salutatorian at Hugoton High School moves on to the next phase of her life after graduation.
"Well, I'm sure that how I want to be remembered will be completely different to how I am remembered," Losey states in a questionnaire submitted to The Telegram. "I would like to be remembered as me. Yes, that's somewhat cliché, but it's the truth. I don't know how else I could be remembered."
Losey has attended school in Hugoton USD 210 since preschool. She finished with a 3.875 cumulative grade-point average.
Losey's academic honors include Eagle Honor Roll for four semesters, Red and Blue Honor Roll for three semesters, and she was a Kansas State University Scholar and University of Kansas Honor Scholar.
Her high school activities include Scholar's Bowl for four years, with some of her time on varsity and as co-captain, baseball manager, softball manager and two years with the Future Business Leaders of America.
Losey's favorite classes were "Mrs. Seamn's and Mrs. Crawford's. You never knew what the topic of conversation would be from day to day." Her least favorite class was "Coach Rod's — he actually made you work."
Her hobbies include beading — she likes making necklaces and bracelets. "I like anything crafty, that brings out my creative side," she said.
She also enjoys camping, fishing and boating. "It's always nice to relax," she said.
As for a memorable moment or fondest memory of high school, Losey says, "There is no way I can pick just one. In general, all the conversation our AC English class had. And of course, the events in physics. All the Scholar's Bowl meets were always looked forward to, as well."
Her advice to incoming high school freshmen: "Run! Far far away! Just kidding. I would tell them to try and keep a grip on their education. High school is a time for fun, but you need to balance learning and fun. If you can do that, you will succeed."
Losey plans to attend the University of Kansas, where she hopes to finish her pre-pharmacy curriculum and then apply to the School of Pharmacy.
"I would love to be a pediatric pharmacist and work in a hospital environment," she said.
And to her fellow graduates as they embark on the next phase of their lives: "First of all, congratulations on making it this far. It seems as if we've waited forever for this moment. I hope that each of you reaches your dreams, or at least finds happiness in life. Good luck on the next chapter of your lives."
