Taylor Roop believes staying active is the way to enjoy high school to its fullest extent and is always trying to relay his message to others.
"I'm a pretty outgoing guy, so staying busy was good for me," he said in a questionnaire provided to The Telegram. "If you excel in one thing, you'll excel in another."
The Moscow graduating senior, who is planning to attend McPherson College this fall, kept busy during his high school years. He took part in almost every activity offered at the school: basketball, football, baseball, track and field, and participation in KAYs, the all-school plays, spirit club and band.
"I enjoy playing sports; they occupy most of my time," Roop said. "When I'm not playing sports, I enjoy playing pingpong, hanging out with my friends and family, and reading."
Roop said he'll never forget this past year's football season, one of the best Moscow High School has seen in several years. The team reached the 8-man Division II state semifinals.
"This past season has been one of the most memorable moments of high school for me, one of the best seasons we've ever had," he said.
In addition, the University of Kansas Scholar has been named to the Superintendent's Honor Rolls, the National Honor Society, the All-State Academic Football Team, has maintained a 4.0 grade-point average along the way, and hopes his stellar high school career could set an example for his fellow students as they embark on the future.
"They should stay devoted to what they're doing and not to stray off the course they've set for themselves," Roop said.
When Roop enrolls at McPherson this fall, he's planning to major in pre-medicine and biology. Despite coming from a long line of teachers, the Moscow graduating senior feels the medical field is his calling. After medical school, he hopes to become an orthopedic surgeon.
"I've always liked to help people, and I want to do that as a career," he said. "This is just always what I've wanted to do."
Roop also hopes his fellow students won't forget him, especially as "a person who gave his all in all he did," he said.
