Moscow — Jace Moore

Published 5/23/2009 in Youth In Excellence

Moscow graduate Jace Moore plans to be a pharmacist, a goal that fits his love for mixing things up in the science lab.

"I found chemistry very interesting," he said in a questionnaire provided to The Telegram. "And my teacher, Mr. Mitchell, likes to blow stuff up like I do."

Moore, who has been attending Moscow schools since second grade, will play baseball for the Seward County Community College Saints when he enrolls this fall to earn his associate's science degree in chemistry.

Moore said he eventually hopes to take that science degree to a pharmacy school.

The valedictorian, who maintained a 4.0 grade-point average, filled his high school years with football, basketball and baseball, and he also took part in power lifting, band, student council, the Kansas Association for Youth, Spirit Club, the school newspaper and yearbook, and C.L.A.S.S. Leadership.

"I enjoy lifting because it feels good when I leave the weight room," he said. "I also like going golfing on a nice, calm day, for a little competition and relaxation."

His most memorable moment from high school is playing in the state baseball tournament in Emporia during his sophomore and junior years -- some of the most fun baseball games he's been a part of and which he'll never forget, he said.

And when Moore isn't playing outdoor sports, he's indoors, hitting pingpong balls with his friends.

"Pingpong is a blast, and a great way to pass time in Moscow," he said.

Moore is also a member of the National Honor Society, the Superintendent's Honor Roll, is a Kansas Honor Scholar and a Wendy's High School Heisman Award School Winner and State Finalist.

Moore said he hopes to impart his positive, high-achieving attitude to younger students.

"High school can be as good or as bad as you want to make it," he said. "The better your attitude is, the more fun you'll have."

Moore said he hopes to be remembered by his peers as the person who was willing to help out, both on and off the field.
