As co-valedictorian of the Satanta High School class of 2009, Joshua Bryan Dunn's long list of accomplishments reads like a Who's Who of American high school students.
No wonder Dunn was chosen for the Who's Who publication all four years of his high school career.
As a Governor's Scholar, Hutchinson News Academic Scholar and KU Honor Student, Dunn maintained a perfect 4.0 grade-point average throughout his four years at Satanta High School. He participated in the Dodge City Community College Math and Science relays and was on the Superintendent's Honor Roll all four years. He also was a member of the National Honor Society his last three years of high school.
Dunn attended Satanta schools his entire life, excelling in music, and was a member of the pep band all four years of high school. Dunn has received numerous awards, including recognition at the Kansas State Large Group Music Contest his freshman through junior years.
Dunn has practiced what he preaches when it comes to his advice to incoming freshman: "Be involved in as many activities as you can be," he said in a questionnaire provided to The Telegram.
Dunn's talents did not stop at music or academics. He also was deeply involved with athletics, participating in football, basketball and track all four years at SHS. He was a four-year varsity letterman in football, serving as captain of the team his senior year. He was a varsity letterman in basketball his sophomore through senior years and also served as team captain his senior year. He also lettered in varsity track his freshman through junior years. He was a Hi-Plains All-League honorable mention linebacker this past season.
Dunn also was highly involved in community activities, including the Pleasant Prairie Youth Group and church choir, a variety of state and international youth conventions, Reading Partners with Satanta Elementary School and Service Partners for LTCU.
Dunn, who said he wants to learn to fly a plane, has been accepted into the U.S. Air Force in Colorado Springs, Colo., where his major is undecided.
He said he hopes to be remembered as an honest, hardworking, nice kid.
"I hope life is all you hoped it would be," is the message Dunn hopes to pass along to his fellow graduates of the 2009 class at SHS.
