Jasmine Dixon, co-valedictorian of the Greeley County High School Class of 2009, has two words of advice for the freshmen-to-be getting ready to embark on their high school journey:"Get involved," Dixon said in a questionnaire provided to The Telegram.
She sure did.
She's been a student in the Greeley County district since kindergarten, and her list of activities is a long one.
She was involved in National Honor Society, cross country, basketball, track and field, Big Brothers Big Sisters, Students Against Destructive Decisions, band, We the People and Science Olympiad.
All the while, she maintained a 4.0 grade-point average and received such honors as Principals Honor Roll all four years, Cross Country Academic All-State (2007, 2008), Kansas Honors Scholar, Kansas State Scholar, WKLL All League Academic Team, KU Achievement Scholarship, Wendy's High School Heisman Scholarship Finalist, Bertha and Henry Brunswig Memorial Scholarship.¬
While she didn't really have a least favorite class in high school, she said government was her favorite.
"My favorite class was government because I liked dealing with current¬ events," Dixon said.
One might wonder how Dixon managed to get around to all of her activities. Maybe she ran. After all, she says running is one of her favorite hobbies.
"I enjoy running because it is a stress reliever and it keeps me in shape,"
Running also brought her one of her fondest memories of high school, winning two state cross country championships.
Her advice to her fellow Greeley County graduates would be to, "Always remember who you are."
Dixon said she plans on attending the University of Kansas, where she will major in pre-pharmacy.
10. How do you want to be remembered by your high school classmates?
As a hard worker and a good friend.
