Ashley Sarchet is preparing to leave behind Hugoton High School and Hugoton USD 210, where she's attended all her school career, as she graduates and moves on to the next phase of her life.
As she moves on, Sarchet says in a questionnaire provided to The Telegram that she doesn't "really have any particular way I want to be remembered. I'm sure they'll simply remember me how I was: that weird, smart girl."
During her high school career, Sarchet was on the Eagle Honor Roll for seven semesters, completed her Kansas Honor Scholar curriculum, was a Governor's Scholar and held a 4.0 cumulative grade-point average.
Her high school activities included dance team, dance lessons, 4-H Club, piano lessons and Scholar's Bowl during her freshman year. As a sophomore, she was involved in forensics, FFA, judging team, debate team, dance lessons, piano lessons, 4-H Club and Scholar's Bowl.
As a junior, she was involved in dance lessons, 4-H, piano lessons and Scholar's Bowl. And in her senior year, she continued with dance lessons, 4-H, piano lessons and Scholar's Bowl.
Sarchet says, "I liked all of my classes where we held class discussions, such as English and physics. I wasn't a big fan of P.E. (Physical Education) or Computer Applications freshman year because I don't like physical exertion and I already knew the material in Computer Applications."
As for hobbies, Sarchet said, "I like writing because it allows me to focus my concentration and creativity on one activity. I also like to dance because it gives me a stress reliever and a way to physically work out my emotions."
Sarchet's advice to incoming high school freshmen is: "Do your homework at home."
And to her fellow graduates, "Remember everyone you left behind, and make sure that high school is not your peak," Sarchet said.
Sarchet hopes to attend college and possibly pursue a graduate degree in English. She'd also like to have a book published.
Sarchet said her most memorable or fondest memory of high school was all of the trips and out-of-school excursions, "because they never failed to be entertaining. In the classroom, I had too many to count, but I enjoyed making pancakes in physics class."
