LAKIN -- It was just a matter of time before the Lakin Broncs would kick its offense into gear. But for the first four innings, Holcomb pitcher Kiefer Bribiesca did all he could to keep the high-powered Bronc offense off balance.

With a 10-0 loss already handed to them in six innings Saturday, the Longhorns were going to need more than just Bribiesca's off speed pitch to have any chance of staying with the Broncs. It just didn't matter by the end though, as Holcomb could never get anything going against Lakin starter Reed McAtee, holding the Longhorns to just one hit. By the time the sixth inning started, Lakin had taken complete control leading by six run. In the bottom of the sixth, the Broncs completed the sweep with another 10-0 win. The game ended when Kyle Dasenbrock hit a two-run double scoring McAtee and Brock Miller.

"We just made too many mental mistakes," Holcomb coach Brad Bascue said.

As much trouble Holcomb did have at times defensively. It was the offense that really struggled. The 11 errors Holcomb committed in the two games were overlooked by the zero runs scored against Lakin's double-threat on the mound, Miller and McAtee.

"I felt a little bit tired because I threw on Thursday, but I gave everything I had, so I felt pretty good in the end," Miller said.

In the first game, Miller gave up four hits and he struck out seven. Offensively, Miller 2-of-4 with two RBIs. In the second game, he finished 2-of-3 with both hits being a double.

"We knew (Holcomb) was going to come in here and talk a little trash and everything," Miller said. "We know how good we are, and we just took care of business."

Eighteen straight wins and no losses this season, Lakin showed its confidence thoughout both games. Even when Bribiesca had the Broncs a off balance in the second game. The Broncs were held scoreless through the first two innings before the offense started to connect in the third. A Beau Bird sacrifice fly scored Tyler Hendrix for the first run, then Zack Aguilar scored as Holcomb ran down Jacob Sauer in a stolen base attempt between second and third.

"The kids kept asking me 'what do I do, what do I do,?'" Lakin coach Steve Davidson said of the first two innings when the Broncs were held scoreless. "You can't think about what you're doing in the middle of a game, you just have to go up there and see the ball and hit the ball and not worry about so much."

With McAtee keeping the Longhorns off the bases, the Lakin offense started to build momentum. The Broncs scored four runs in the fifth inning as Bribiesca was relieved after a Dasenbrock triple scored Miller.

McAtee finished his game on the mound by striking out Bribiesca. C.J. Brau started the sixth for Holcomb by getting the only hit off McAtee, a single to right field. McAtee finished with seven strikeouts.

The sweep stopped an eight-game win streak by Holcomb (9-7).

"I knew (Lakin) were a good team coming in," Bascue said of Lakin. "I still think we can compete with them. We just need to cut down on our mistakes. Give them credit, they can pitch. They've got two guys that will come out and bring it. But still, we can compete with teams like that."
