The Garden City Community College softball team picked up a sweep on the road Tuesday at Colby.

The Lady Broncbusters cruised to a 6-0 win in the first game, then stopped a Colby rally in the nightcap to win 8-5.

Colby scored all of its runs in the second game in the final two innings, with three coming in the seventh.

In the Jayhawk Conference Western Division opener, Garden City (22-10, 8-4) jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning. The Busters tacked on their final three runs in the third.

Taylor Cange (9-7) picked up the win. She worked seven innings, giving up four hits, four walks and she struck out six.

Blair Stalder, Sarah Archuleta and Tracey Stefanski had two hits and an RBI each for GCCC. Stalder and catcher Kayla Jeanjaquet scored twice.

Archuleta and Stefanski have given the Busters a lift from the No. 6 and 7 spots in the order.

"Before the Butler series she wasn't hitting it very well," GCCC coach Phil Terpstra said of Archuleta. "We really worked with her before Butler and she has really come around and is hitting it well."

The Busters and Trojans were both scoreless through two innings in the second game. In the third, Garden City scored two runs, then one in the fifth. An inning later the Busters broke loose with five runs to take an 8-0 lead before Colby answered with two runs in its half of the sixth.

During the Busters' half of the sixth, Stalder had a three-run double. It was her second hit of the game.

"With Blair, it's just a matter of timing," Terpstra said. "She's got such a nice swing and she's doing a good job."

Alexa Harvey (13-3) got the win. She worked six innings, giving up five runs (three earned) on six hits. She was relieved by Cange in the seventh.

Archuleta had three hits and two RBIs in Game 2.

The Busters were to be at home today at Tangeman Sports Complex for a doubleheader against Seward County with a 3 p.m. start.
