The Garden City High School softball team had its four-game win streak snapped at Great Bend on Thursday, but the Lady Buffaloes weren't about to hang their head against the more experienced team.
Great Bend won the first game 3-0, then finished the sweep 10-0 in the nightcap.
"I would have to say that first game was our best defensive performance of the year," Buffaloes coach John Ford said. "Great Bend is an excellent team."
Regina Aguiniga (4-6) gave up seven hits to the Panthers in the opener with the first runs coming in the second inning. The final run didn't come until the sixth.
"Regina pitched very well," Ford said. "She only threw 52 pitches and she was extremely efficient."
In the second game, the Panthers jumped on Garden City (5-7, 2-2) early scoring three run in the first, then five in the second. The Buffaloes managed just three hits and the game ended after five innings.
"I think after the first game the girls were able to say 'hey, we're improving,'" Ford said. "The thing is we need to be more consistent. I didn't think we had the energy in the second game we had in the first game."
Garden City will be in Pratt for a triangular on Tuesday. The Buffaloes will play Pratt in the first game at 2:30 p.m., then Dodge City in the following game.
