There's one thing Lloyd Tiffany notices about his Garden City High School boys golf team -- every week it continue to get better.
At the Dodge City Invitational at Mariah Hill Golf Course, the Buffaloes placed fifth in the eight team meet with a 335 on Tuesday. Dodge City won their home invitational with a 300, holding off Hays High by four strokes.
"The kids shot much better than they have and so I was pleased with that," Tiffany said.
Andrew O'Brate paced the Buffaloes with an 80. He finished just outside of the top 10 individual placers. Jack Hitz, who played in Garden City's No. 1 spot shot an 82 and he was followed by Loran Richmeier with an 84 and Austin Kuneyl finished with an 89. The four scores under 90 was the Buffaloes most balanced effort to this point in the season.
"We really haven't been this way, Jack and Andrew have led the team for the most part," Tiffany said. "We're just getting better each week."
Garden City's Ryan Harp shot a 97 and Trent Nevola finished with a 98.
Aaron Mapel from Dodge City won the individual title with a 69. His teammate Jarret Tagtmeyer placed runner-up with a 72 and Hays High's Travis Kleweno shot a 73.
Garden City will be at Junction City on Thursday.
