The Garden City High School swim team finished third at the Hays High Swim Meet on Monday, grabbing one first place individual finish and taking the top spot in the 200-yard freestyle relay.

Junior Shannon McNeill took first in the 50-yard freestyle, clocking in at 28.20 to beat out Tarryn Andrews of Hays. The relay team, meanwhile, consisting of Nancy Nguyen, Lesly Alcantar, Angela Sewell and Laisa Alcantar finished with a time of 2:13.93 to take the top spot -- nearly a full second ahead of second place Dodge City.

McNeill also placed second in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 1:12.95. Freshman Theresa Amante also took second in the 500-yard freestyle and the 100-yard backstroke. Amante finished the freestyle race in 6:54.59 while clocking at 1:15.36 in the backstroke. Laisa Alcantar finished second in the 100-yard breaststroke, finishing in 1:21.44, just ahead of third place teammate Alesha Green who posted a time of 1:30.82.

Hays took first place at the three team meet with a team score of 202.5, while Dodge City finished second with 154.5 points. Garden City posted 128 team points.
