Garden City High School's girls soccer team did everything it needed to win Monday's game with Wichita Trinity.
Everything, that is, except score enough goals.
The Lady Buffaloes fell to Trinity 3-1 in Wichita, snapping an eight-game win streak that stretched back into early March.
"We played well," said Garden City coach Joaquin Padilla. "We outshot them, but we just didn't make them. It was one of those things where we took 15 shots and they only took five or six, but made three."
After a scoreless first half, the Lady Buffaloes jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the second on a goal by freshman Mari Ruvalcaba. Trinity responded with a goal of their own, knotting the score going into the final few minutes.
Then, things turned sour for Garden City.
Trinity scored two goals in the games last five minutes to jump out in front to seal the game and hand the Lady Buffaloes their first loss in nearly three weeks.
"(Trinity) make the ones that counted," Padilla said. "We controlled the game and did everything to win, we just couldn't make the goals." Garden City travels to Dodge City today looking to keep their four-game Western Athletic Conference winning-streak alive before heading to Hays on Thursday.
