EL DORADO -- Garden City Community College Basketball coach Kris Baumann said it best during a recent luncheon.

"It's great to beat the Frank Phillips of the world, but they're not in our conference," he said.

Garden City (11-4, 0-2) dropped its second conference game in four days with a 72-65 loss at Butler (6-9, 1-1) on Saturday night. The Broncbusters, who entered league play at 11-2, lost to Seward County and Independence, two Jayhawk foes in December. Neither game counts in the conference standings.

Butler was keyed by an early 13-3 run and never relinquished the lead. The Busters, who relies on a few 3-pointers suffered their worst performance of the season. Garden City was 2-for-24 from beyond the 3-point arc for eight percent. The 11 missed free throws didn't help matters as the Busters failed to close out the game.

Butler was allowed to double up Garden City with a 10-5 run in the final two minutes.

"We have to adjust some defenses and do a better job of half court trapping," assistant coach Tyrone Kirby said.

The Grizzlies had four starters score in double figures.

The Busters' Cory Claitt led all scoring with 23 while Tyrone Flemming added 16.

Garden City will be home on Wednesday to host Pratt for an 8 p.m. tip-off.
