The Garden City Community College women's basketball team snapped a four-game losing skid with a convincing 62-33 win Monday on the road against the Sterling College junior varsity.

The Lady Broncbusters dominated early, building a 32-13 lead by halftime, then continued to roll from there. Sterling, who GCCC beat by 21 in the Pepsi Classic on Nov. 12, never had much going offensively. For the game GCCC (3-5) held them to a frigid 12-of-63 (19 percent) shooting night. The Sterling JV didn't have one player score in double-figures as Lacey Carlson led the way with nine points.

"I thought the girls did a really good job," GCCC coach Alaura Sharp said. "We had already seen (Sterling JV) once this year and we beat them by 21 and so I wasn't sure how they would come out, but I thought we came out with a lot of energy and did a good job of stopping them."

The Lady Busters were led by sophomore guard LaMesia Abbott with 18 points.

"She really is (coming around)," Sharp said of Abbott. "She shot the ball really well and she's playing with a lot of confidence."

Freshman post Marisela Rodriguez scored 16, and she tied teammate Jasmine Troup for team-high honors with nine rebounds apiece.

GCCC will be home this weekend for the Thanksgiving Classic at Perryman Athletic Complex. The Lady Busters will take on No. 8-ranked Western Nebraska on Friday, then will play New Mexico Junior College on Saturday. Both games start at 5:30 p.m. GCCC has already played NMJC once, falling in the Seward Classic in the first game of the season, 67-56, on Nov. 6.
