Round 1 of the two-day Garden City Community College softball team Jayhawk Conference road trip is complete. And with it the Lady Broncbusters head into today's doubleheader at Butler 2-0 on the trip.

The Busters swept Neosho County on Friday, 9-4 and 4-0.

So what did Garden City head coach Phil Terpstra think of the series compared to his teams sweep of Dodge City on Wednesday?

"We were better," Terpstra said. "There were still a few mental mistakes, but I thought we did a better job."

On the pitching mound, the Busters couldn't have asked for better of a performance from Taylor Cange, who shut out Neosho in game 2. Cange (8-4) threw a two-hitter and struck out 11.

"Taylor pitched very, very well," Terpstra said. "This was her best performance of the season."

Garden City (19-8, 5-3) had plenty of help on the offensive side as well. In the first game, the Busters racked up 13 hits, including six extra base hits. Becky Diehl hit her 11th home run of the season and Kirsten Bahr also had a home run. Bahr hit a double in the fifth inning with the bases loaded that scored two runs.

"In that fifth inning we scored six runs," Terpstra said. "Kirsten's double was with two outs and so it was big."

Joni Stegman (11-3) picked up the win in the first game. She pitched five innings before she was relieved in the fifth by Marie Zoglman.

The Busters will start their first game at noon today. Tuesday, Garden City will be on the road again as they travel to Seward County for a conference doubleheader that starts at 3 p.m.
