The Garden City Community College softball team made their road trip into Colorado on Sunday more enjoyable as they returned with a sweep by dropping Trinidad State, 11-7, in the opener, then in the second game toppled Colorado College, 12-4.

Garden City (29-13) will play Colby Community College on Tuesday at Tangeman Sports Complex in a make-up doubleheader that will start at 2 p.m. The Jayhawk Conference Western Division has been decided and the Busters will end up with the No. 3 seed as they head to Wichita on Friday for the start of the Region 6 playoffs. Their opening playoff opponent will be No. 2 Butler County. The Busters are 8-6 in the conference. Their playoff opener will begin at noon. The double-elimination tournament runs through the weekend.

The road trip to Trinidad didn't slow the Lady Busters' offensive attack as they started the opener by scoring four runs in the top of the first. The big blow came from the bat of Sarah Archuleta who belted a three-run home run. Trinidad came back with three runs in the bottom of the third, but then the Busters blew it open with a six-run fifth inning.

After Trinidad managed one run in the sixth, the Busters tacked on their final tally in the top of the seventh. Leading 11-4, Garden City held off a mini-rally when Trinidad scored three times.

The Lady Busters pounded out 11 hits in the game, with Archuleta leading the way with three and she drove in five runs. Blair Stalder had a pair of hits, including a two-run double in the fifth and another in the seventh.

Sophomore pitcher Taylor Cange (13-8) went the distance in the opener.

In the second game against Colorado College, the Lady Busters were on top 5-3 through three innings before exploding for seven runs in the fourth. Stalder once again had a hot bat as she went 2-for-3, driving in two runs with a pair of singles in the first and fifth innings. Kayla Jeanjaquet had a pair of RBIs in an unusual manner — a bases-loaded walk and also when she was hit by a pitch. Trisha Haslam knocked in three runs with a two-run single and had a RBI when she was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded.
