GCCC vs Hutch Baseball

Published 4/2/2008

By The Telegram Sports Staff

The Garden City Community College baseball team finished its rescheduled doubleheader at Hutchinson on Tuesday. And just like the first two games of the Jayhawk Conference Western Division series, the Broncbusters came up short as the Blue Dragons picked up the sweep, 13-0 and 3-2.

The Busters led going into the bottom half of the seventh inning in Game 2, but after the Dragons tied the score at 2-2, Eric DeBlanc delivered for Hutchinson. On the first pitch from Garden City pitcher Nate Van Bibber, DeBlanc drove a shot to left field that scored Drew Wilkinson for the winning run.

Van Bibber (2-4) took the loss as he went the distance, giving up three runs on six hits.

In the first game, Hutchinson (22-10, 15-5) took care of business early, winning 13-0 in five innings. The Dragons scored four runs in the second, two in the third and seven in the fourth.

Hayden Daugherty (2-3) took the loss.

Garden City (13-17, 6-10) have now lost 13 of their last 15 games.

The Busters will be on the road Thursday for a doubleheader at Brown Mackie College in Salina. The first game starts at 3 p.m.
