The Garden City Community College baseball team split its doubleheader against Phoenix College in Phoenix. The Broncbusters lost the first game 5-4, then bounced back to take the nightcap 5-3.

Garden City's loss in the first game was its first of the spring break trip in Arizona. The Busters knocked off Glendale Community College on Sunday 12-0, then swept No. 9 Yavapai on Monday. GCCC (16-3) completes its swing through the Southwest today with a doubleheader that was to start at noon at Paradise Valley in Phoenix.

"I really can't complain," GCCC coach Chris Finnegan said of his No. 21 ranked team. "Everything has been going really well."

In the first game Tuesday, the Busters had a 4-3 lead going into the bottom of the seventh, but gave up two runs to take the loss. In Game 2, GCCC build a four-run lead through six innings before giving up two in the seventh.

"Coming into (Tuesday) was I nervous? Yes," Finnegan said of the Busters coming off their impressive sweep of Yavapai. "I thought we were better than we showed we were against Phoenix, but we did some good things."

The Busters were to leave Phoenix after the second game today and be back in Garden City on Thursday. The Busters will be back in Jayhawk Conference Western Division play Saturday and Sunday in Hutchinson for a pair of doubleheaders that start at 1 p.m. on both days.
